Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Granada
The Archdiocese of Granada (Latin: Archidioecesis Granatensis) is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in Spain. It was erected as the Diocese of Granada in the 3rd century, and was elevated to the rank of a metropolitan archdiocese by Pope Alexander VI on December 10, 1492, with the suffragan sees of Almería, Cartagena, Guadix, Jaén, and Málaga.
The archdiocese's motherchurch and thus seat of its archbishop is the Cathedral of the Annunciation; Granada also houses the Basilicas of San Juan de Dios and Nuestra Señora de las Angustias. The current Archbishop of Granada is Francisco Martínez Fernández, having been appointed by Pope John Paul II on March 15, 2003.
